We met at the Robertson Cheese Factory for coffee and cakes before departing for
Mountain Ridge Wines on the South Coast. A great drive through Fitzroy Falls followed
by the climb over Berry Mountain and down into Coolangatta. Some great photography
work by Brendan and Alison whilst the fleet was coming down Fitzroy Falls.
Mountain Ridge Wines was our venue for lunch and we were welcomed by Tom to this
stunning location and our private function area with some bubbles and a chance to hear
a little about this wonderful boutique winery that he’d taken over earlier this year. Tom
and his Wife Pip hosted a wine tasting session with some great cheese platters, before
the opportunity to taste the delights from the kitchen. In addition to the great wines there
was a liquor slushy and a macadamia liquor and there certainly were a lot of purchases
before departure for a short drive to our second winery, Two Figs winery.
From Two Figs we made the short drive to our accommodation for the night in Berry
and a chance for most to do a brief recovery from lunch.
Dinner was enjoyed by all at the Berry Hotel and then a very short walk back to our
Motel. Few seemed interested in getting an early sleep and in a matter of moments the
front balcony became the place where all manner of refreshments quickly emerged –
many single malt whiskeys, lemoncella, Stones Ginger Wine, cheese and chocolate
–very resourceful Members and a great way to spend a few hours up to midnight.
Interesting that the refreshments were referred to as “tea” as most was served in tea
cups…very strong tea!
All turned out well for breakfast followed by a shopping opportunity for the girls in Berry
and the boys took to the donut van across the road for coffee, donuts and a lot of Saab
For most it was then a 30 minute drive up to Jamberoo Pub for lunch, however parking
was at a premium with a few choosing to head straight home.
A great relaxing weekend was had by all with highlights being the function at Mountain
Ridge Winery and the impromptu “tea on the balcony” after dinner on Saturday night.
Special thanks to Bruce and Shani for organizing a very memorable weekend with able
consulting support from Terry and Faye.
